Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance and we think of all those lost to anti-trans violence around the world.

You can take part in remembering and honouring those who didn’t make it and in supporting the struggle for trans equality worldwide by attending events across the country.

In Sheffield the 16th annual Transgender Day of Remembrance will be observed with a candlelit vigil, poetry and a minute’s noise in the Peace Gardens in Sheffield city centre at 6pm.

“The ‘minute’s noise’ will be a symbolic outcry against the continuing prejudice, discrimination, abuse and violence which transgender people suffer from,” Nell Stockton, transgender representative for LGBT Sheffield, told The Sheffield Star.

Transgender Day of Remembrance (#TDoR) was founded in 1998 and occurs annually on November 20. It is a day to remember those who have been killed as a result of transphobia* and to bring attention to the continued violence endured by the transgender community.

You can follow the Twitter hashtag #TDOR to learn more about this day and the struggle for trans equality.
