The Eurovision Song Contest has a long history of celebrating gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender artists. Here are our ten favourite acts.
10. BLUE – “I CAN” – UK – 2011
Blue did the UK proud when they placed 11th with “I Can” – and with Duncan at the helm of this fabulous foursome we can never forget it.
9. DEEN – “DISCO” – BOSNIA HERZEGOVINA – 2004
This camp disco tune from Deen placed Bosnia Herzegovina 9th in 2004.
8. KRISTA SIEGFRIDS – “MARRY ME” – FINLAND – 2013
Krista shocked viewers by including a lesbian kiss at the end of the performance of this pop tune in 2013. Lithuania borrowed the same-sex kiss trick for their performance in 2015.
7. SCHOOCH – “FLYING THE FLAG” – UK – 2007
Camp reached new heights with this UK entry from Scooch. Filled with sexual innuendos, this song clearly didn’t go down too well with Europe as it came in 23rd with 19 points.
6. THE ARK – “THE WORRYING KIND” – SWEDEN – 2007
Bisexual Ola Salo, serving all the feather realness, headed up The Ark’s 2007 entry, which saw the country place 18th.
5. VERKA SERDUCHKA – “DANCING LASHA TUMBAI” – UKRAINE – 2007
Drag queen Verka Verduchka placed second with this Eurovision hit.
4. DANA INTERNATIONAL – “DIVA” – ISRAEL – 1998
Transgender Dana International won the hearts of Europe with Diva, a Eurovision classic.
3. MARIJA ŠERIFOVIC – MOLITVA – SERBIA – 2007
2007 was a good year for LGBT Eurovision, not least because lesbian singer Marija won with this power ballad destined to give you goosebumps.
2. LOREEN – “EUPHORIA” – SWEDEN – 2012
Bisexual human rights activist and all-round goddess Loreen stormed into hearts and charts across the world when she won in Azerbaijan in 2012.
1. CONCHITA – “RISE LIKE A PHOENIX” – AUSTRIA – 2014
Queen Conchita rose like a Phoenix when she won with this Bond theme-like anthem in 2014.
